Project manager arrested for falsifying RM800,000 road work claims

KOTA KINABALU: A company project manager has been arrested for allegedly falsifying claims of around RM800,000 for incomplete roadworks conducted between 2014 and 2018.

The suspect, in his 50s, was apprehended after providing his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here at around 10am on Thursday (Mar 6).

A source from the MACC indicated that the suspect is believed to have filed multiple claims totaling around RM800,000 to a government department in Sabah.

"The road project he allegedly filed claims for was never finished," said the source.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court in Kota Kinabalu at 9am on Friday (Mar 7).

Until then, the suspect is released on a RM10,000 MACC bail with one local surety.
