High Court records settlement in lawsuit between Anwar and Kuala Terengganu MP

KUALA TERENGGANU: The High Court here recorded an out-of-court settlement in the defamation lawsuit involving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim.

The settlement was recorded before Judge Datuk Hassan Abdul Ghani at 9am on Wednesday (March 5).

Both parties agreed to withdraw their respective claims without any costs and without the option to refile the case.

A joint statement read in court stated that they agreed to end the personal dispute to focus on more significant national issues.

"After considering the impact of the defamation lawsuit and the legal costs involved, both parties agreed to end this dispute in the Kuala Terengganu High Court.

"This is also due to larger and more important issues that need attention," the statement said.

Ahmad Amzad withdrew his statement made on December 7, 2022, while Anwar withdrew the lawsuit without any costs.

Anwar was represented by lawyers Datuk Sankara Narayanan Nair, Narendran Letchiemanan, and Wong Guo Jin from S N Nair & Partners, while Ahmad Amzad was represented by lawyers Yusfarizal Yusoff and Mohd Faizi Che Abu.

Both parties expressed their appreciation to the judge and court staff and hoped this decision would be respected for the nation's well-being.

Earlier, Anwar filed the lawsuit against Ahmad Amzad on December 22, 2022, over allegations of making defamatory statements about him lying about receiving a salary of RM1 while serving as the Economic Advisor of Selangor.
