PM calls for tighter monitoring of prices at Ramadan bazaars

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister wants increased monitoring at Ramadan bazaars by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to ensure there are no unreasonable price hikes.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said these were among the matters discussed during the meeting between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali earlier on Tuesday (March 4).

“The Prime Minister will also visit several Ramadan bazaars to see the price and quality of food sold there, alongside supporting small traders.

“He also ordered for more Rahmah Madani sales programmes to be carried out throughout Ramadan and ahead of Syawal,” said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah during the PMO's daily briefing on Tuesday evening.

Tunku Nashrul said the Prime Minister also ordered the ministry to increase monitoring and enforcement efforts under Ops Pantau 2025.

“This includes ensuring frequent inspections to ensure the supply of necessities is sufficient throughout Ramadan and Aidilfitri,” he said.

Tunku Nashrul said the Prime Minister wants intervention strategies to be carried out immediately, together with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, if there is a supply disruption.

“The Prime Minister also (told) the Domestic Trade Ministry to be firmer in ensuring that traders adhere to the maximum prices set by the government, including for goods under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme, which will be announced later," he added.

Separately, Anwar also expressed appreciation to all MPs who supported amendments to the Federal Constitution which will be the foundation of the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025, according to Tunku Nashrul.

“With a strong two-thirds support from MPs, this proves the stability of the Madani administration led by the Prime Minister,” he said.

He said Anwar also described the actions of the 57 Opposition MPs who opposed the amendments as betraying efforts to reform Parliament.
