Married couple nabbed over abuse and death of 6yo boy

KUALA LUMPUR: A married couple has been detained in Kepong for allegedly abusing a six-year-old boy, leading to his death.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa (pic) said they detained the female suspect, the child's babysitter, and her husband after a report was lodged on Monday (March 3) morning.

"The victim was brought to the hospital unconscious by the female suspect," he told a press conference at city police headquarters here on Tuesday (March 4).

The child later died, he added.

"A post-mortem revealed about 20 injuries to the child's head, body, arms and legs, caused by a blunt object," he said.

According to Comm Rusdi, the female suspect had been looking after the boy since Jan 21.

"The mother, aged 27, paid the woman RM800 a month to take care of the boy.

"The victim's parents are divorced," he added.

The suspects, both 25, have three children of their own, aged four to seven.

"The suspects have been remanded until Friday (March 7)," Comm Rusdi said.
