THE Education Ministry has instructed SMK Raja Mahadi in Klang to hold Tamil classes during regular school hours, resolving a 10-day scheduling dispute, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Parents, MIC and various NGOs objected to the school’s initial plan to schedule Tamil classes outside regular hours.

This proposal, affecting 190 students taking Tamil Language and 150 taking Tamil Literature for SPM, had upset many.

The school has 1,533 Indian students, 330 Malay students, 173 Chinese students and 97 from other communities.

The schedule proposed by the school would have inconvenienced students relying on school buses.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, who met with state and district education officials, instructed both subjects to be taught during regular class hours.

The intervention was welcomed by parents, students and the community, the daily reported.
