Sabah Umno advocates for honest political alliances ahead of state elections

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno is pushing for strong political partnerships based on trust, respect and honesty to ensure stability and the well-being of the people, says its secretary, Datuk Jafry Ariffin.

Jafry noted that while their president and Barisan Nasional chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has expressed openness to forming electoral pacts ahead of the coming state election, Sabah Umno believes alliances should not be driven by political convenience.

"Politics is not just about strength or power but about trust and responsibility to the people,

"We must set a positive example for future generations and put an end to the culture of backstabbing, pretending to be friends while having other agendas," said Jafry, who is also Sukau assemblyman, in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 25).

Ahmad Zahid previously stated that Barisan remains open to discussions with various parties to ensure political stability in Sabah.

However, the local political differences among Sabah Barisan, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Sabah Pakatan Harapan continue to pose challenges to the formation of a united front.

The 17th Sabah State Election is due by September this year, with discussions on possible electoral pacts still ongoing among key political players.
