PETALING JAYA: The National Unity and Religious Affairs Ministries will work together with the authorities to investigate claims that certain foreign individuals tried to spread their faith to Muslims at a PPR housing in Wangsa Maju.
“If it is true it must be stopped immediately and action must be taken against those involved, said National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 25).
“Article 11 of the Federal Constitution has provisions that all can practise their faith, but non-Muslims are not allowed to spread their faith or doctrines to Muslims,” it said.
The Committee on Interfaith Harmony was responding to a viral video on social media which allegedly showed foreigners going from house to house to try to spread their faith.
"This action has raised concerns over the safety, harmony and unity among the community in this country of various races," the committee said.
"The public is advised not to be influenced by these actions and report any suspicious activities to the police."
The committee said the two ministries will increase the activities of the voluntary patrol scheme in the Klang Valley to strengthen the safety and harmony among communities in the country.
"Jakim (the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia) will continue playing an important role in giving advise to Muslims on the importance of akidah, in line with the Malaysia Madani government which emphasises principles of unity and wellbeing.
"Both ministers have urged all parties to safeguard harmony and respect the culture and tradition of others which form the basis of Malaysian living.
"They also hope this incident does not recur and stern action will be taken to ensure the safety and national harmony," it added.
