Three injured in accident involving bus, lorry on North-South Expressway


IPOH: Four people were injured in an accident that saw a bus crash into a drain at KM389 northbound of the North-South Expressway near Muallim.

Muallim OCPD Superintendent Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said that those injured included bus driver T. Daniel, 33, and his attendant R. Sathiswaran, 22, both from Kedah.

"The bus driver suffered injuries to his back and right arm, while the attendant was injured on his chest."A passenger of the bus, identified as Farooq Hussain, 26, from Pakistan, suffered a broken left leg and right arm," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 19).

Supt Mohd Hasni said an initial investigation into the incident found that the bus, which was carrying 20 people from Bangladesh, two from Pakistan and two from Nepal, was headed to Sungai Petani from Kuala Lumpur, had lost control before crashing into a truck that was on the emergency lane.

"The truck skidded to the right lane and slammed into a divider before crashing into the side of the road on the left while the bus landed into the drain," he said.

"The driver of the truck, identified as Mohd Fairuz Md Saleh, 36, from Johor Baru, sustained injuries to his fingers on his right hand.

"The truck driver, Farooq and Daniel have been sent to the Slim River Hospital for treatment," he added.
