Kulai motorcyclist dies after crashing into lorry entering emergency lane due to burst tyre

KULAI: A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into the rear end of a lorry that had entered the emergency lane due to a burst tire.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said police received an emergency call about the incident, which occurred at KM24.6 of the North-South Expressway around 7.15pm on Monday (Feb 17).

"Initial investigations found that the accident happened when the lorry, driven by a 47-year-old man, moved to the emergency lane due to a burst front-right tire.

"As the lorry was entering the emergency lane, the motorcyclist, a 30-year-old local man, was unable to avoid it and crashed into the rear of the lorry," he said in a statement.

He said the accident caused serious injuries to the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The lorry driver was not injured," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Tan also urged those with information about the accident to contact the investigating officer involved in the case from the Kulai police headquarters' traffic investigation and enforcement department at 011-2608 1008.
