PETALING JAYA: Students of primary and secondary schools in Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah have begun the 2025/2026 academic year.
In Terengganu, a total of 256,869 students attended classes in the state, which included 149,314 primary school pupils and 107,555 secondary school students from 506 schools.
Terengganu Education Department director Jelani Sulong said the number of Year One pupils have increased to 23,254, compared to 22,126 from the previous 2024/2025 academic session.
“Students can now begin their learning sessions at all 506 schools, which are fully equipped with the necessary facilities, although no teaching and learning activities will be conducted for the first week.
“Only orientation or introduction sessions will take place to ensure students’ smooth adjustment to the school environment,” he said while observing the first school day at SJK(C) Chong Hwa Wakaf Tapai yesterday.
He added that RM36,224,100 in Early Schooling Aid has been distributed to 241,494 students from Year One to Form Five across the state during the recent school holidays.
The distribution for Form Six and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia students will be done sometime later this month.
In Kedah, 349,966 students, including 200,574 primary school pupils and 149,392 secondary school students, started classes at 752 schools, Bernama reported.
According to state education director Ismail Othman, this includes 29,934 Year One pupils and 30,194 Form One students.
Meanwhile, in Kelantan, state Education Department deputy director (Planning and management sector) Mat Lazim Mohamad said a total of 259,048 students from 595 schools had started their 2025/2026 classes.
