JOHOR BARU: Any PKR member who wants to vie for the party's top two posts should be welcomed, says its Johor vice-chief Jimmy Puah.
The Tebrau MP said there should be no stopping anyone from running for the post of president or deputy president, currently held by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli respectively.
“But if no one comes forward as a candidate for the (posts), then that is the reality," he said when asked to comment on the matter during a Chinese New Year open house for his constituents here on Sunday (Feb 16).

On Saturday (Feb 15), Anwar said PKR’s top leadership will collectively decide whether or not the posts will be open for contest in this year's party elections.
He said he would not interfere in the matter and would let democracy take its course.
The Prime Minister was responding to suggestions that the party’s top two posts should remain uncontested in the polls, scheduled for May, to preserve unity.
On Jan 26, secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh confirmed that party elections will proceed on May 24, with contests open for all posts on the supreme council, Women’s wing and Youth wing for the 2025-2028 term.
Meanwhile, Puah said the Johor PKR congress, postponed from late last year, would be held on May 25 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
He said Anwar is expected to officiate as party president.
The congress, scheduled for Dec 14 and 15, was postponed owing to flood relief efforts in several states at the time.
