KUALA LUMPUR: The city’s mayor believes a lack of awareness and unfamiliarity with online processes is why over 1,000 Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar trading lots remain unclaimed.
“While I don’t have specific data on why the lots are still available, I believe it could be because some traders are unaware or don’t have the time to apply online,” said Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif (pic).
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is extending the application period by four days until Sunday (Feb 16) to encourage traders to apply for the available lots.
City Hall is engaging MPs, DBKL Advisory Board members, and community leaders to spread the word about the available bazaar trading lots.
Maimunah spoke after the opening ceremony of Our Federal Territories Carnival (KUL VIBES) 2025 at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.
The carnival featured a counter for traders to submit applications for bazaar trading lots.
DBKL had announced on social media the reopening of applications for Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar trading lots at various sites in Kuala Lumpur.
Applications are based on a “first come, first serve” basis at locations such as Bandar Tun Razak, Lembah Pantai, Seputeh, Setiawangsa, Titiwangsa, and Wangsa Maju.
Applications are to be completed online, with consultation counters available at selected locations like DBKL branch offices and Menara DBKL 2.
Trading lots at 35 Ramadan bazaar sites and one Aidilfitri bazaar are available during the reopening stage, although some have been fully taken or have limited availability as of Saturday morning (Feb 15).
Ramadan bazaars offer food and drinks for buka puasa, while Aidilfitri bazaars sell items for Aidilfitri festivities, such as clothes and accessories.
Rent for a Ramadan bazaar lot is about RM500, while an Aidilfitri bazaar lot costs about RM2,700.
As of Saturday noon (February 15), a DBKL Licensing and Business Development Department officer said 700 people had submitted applications during the reopening stage, with over 400 complete.
“Those who submit complete applications and pay in full will know by the end of the day whether their application was successful,” said the officer.

DBKL had initially offered more than 3,000 business lots for Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars across Kuala Lumpur when applications first opened late last year.
City Hall will manage both the licensing and maintenance aspects of the bazaars.
KUL VIBES 2025 is a two-day carnival held in conjunction with Federal Territories Day 2025.
The event includes community activities, sports, culture, and entertainment programmes, such as a parade, half marathon, fun run, zumba sessions, concerts, competitions, and demonstrations for e-sports, extreme sports, pickleball, teqball, traditional sports, and a Chinese New Year celebration.
Also present at the opening ceremony were DBKL executive director (Project Management) Mohamad Hamim and DBKL Culture, Arts, Tourism and Sports Department director Naquib Hamdan.
