SHAH ALAM: Increased private investment in logistical infrastructure and hubs could drive the growth of Malaysia’s logistics ecosystem, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said the private sector’s crucial role in advancing national logistics capabilities is identifying and developing key hubs near major gateways into the country.
“As the global supply chain evolves, we must continue enhancing our logistical infrastructure to remain a preferred investment destination.
“With logistics as the backbone of our economy, the government is committed to enabling a seamless, technology-driven ecosystem that enhances supply chain efficiency and supports sustainable growth.
“But this can only be achieved with private sector support, especially with the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) set to drive demand for logistical infrastructure when completed in 2027,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new private logistics hub here on Wednesday (Feb 12).
Loke highlighted the hub’s strategic location in Elmina, less than 10km from Subang Airport, as an example of the private sector’s ability to develop vital infrastructure in key areas.
“Located in Selangor’s growth corridor, it enhances connectivity to Port Klang, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and major transport networks.
“Once the ECRL is operational, I expect this hub to play a key role in maximising rail transport potential and further strengthening our logistics sector,” he said.
He added that such hubs will help facilitate smoother trade flows and reduce supply chain bottlenecks, ultimately benefiting the public through improved accessibility and potentially lower costs.
“I encourage all stakeholders to continue fostering collaboration, innovation, and investment in Malaysia’s logistics sector for the benefit of all,” he said.
