KOTA KINABALU: The state government has mandated prompt repairs of potholed roads that present significant risks to drivers, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said he has ordered the relevant ministry to ensure its agencies repair any damages to roads that may cause accidents.
Hajiji was commenting on last week's accident involving Anthonius William, a 38-year-old father of three young children from Penampang, who was killed after being thrown from his motorcycle when he hit a pothole on the Lido flyover here.
"This is something very unfortunate and saddening with what has happened," Hajiji said during the Parti Gagasan Rakyat (Gagasan Rakyat) Inanam division's Chinese New Year open house held here Sunday (Feb 9).
He added that it was important for the administration to take proactive actions.
Since the Feb 3 incident, the private road concessionaire had sealed off the pothole at the Lido flyover.
In a speech earlier, Hajiji said that the Chinese New Year celebration reflected the harmony and unity of the people of Sabah, which had always been intertwined.
"It is something that reflects our harmony and unity in Sabah. People of various religious and racial backgrounds come together to celebrate as one," he added.
