JOHOR BARU: Johor has submitted a proposal to revive the abandoned Meridin East Pasir Gudang flyover project to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said he raised the matter during a courtesy visit to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi in Putrajaya on Thursday (Feb 6).
He added that the Meridin East Pasir Gudang flyover project, abandoned for four years since 2021, was among the matters discussed between the state government delegation and the ministry.
“The state government also put forward several proposed solutions including opening a two-way access to the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE) that will reduce traffic congestion in Pasir Gudang,” he said in a Facebook post here on Friday (Feb 7).
Onn Hafiz added the state government wanted their appeal to be considered for Johor to continue progressing as a competitive and prosperous state.
He also thanked the federal government, through the Works Ministry, for approving an allocation worth RM263mil this year for Johor.
Onn Hafiz expressed his thanks to Nanta Linggi for accepting the state government delegation visit where both parties could discuss the way forward for Johor’s infrastructure development.
He said through such discussion, several priority issues have been raised including the flood mitigation project, development projects, as well as the maintenance of federal roads and slip roads.
“With the cooperation of both governments, we are committed to ensuring that all infrastructure projects in Johor are completed according to the set timeline.
“This also includes ensuring that traffic distribution can be implemented throughout the project implementation period,” he said.
