Hindu Sangam thanks PM for Cabinet decision to drop proposed guidelines

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) has expressed its sincere appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government for deciding that there is no need to create guidelines on Muslim participation in the festive celebrations of other religions.

"We deeply appreciate the government’s careful consideration of these concerns and its commitment to ensuring that any policies affecting Malaysia’s multi-religious society are formulated with inclusivity and national unity in mind,” the MHS central council said in a statement Friday (Feb 7).

The MHS also recognised the important role of the Interfaith Harmony Committee, which facilitates open dialogue between religious group representatives, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation among all communities of diverse faiths in Malaysia.

"The decision taken by the Prime Minister and the Cabinet reflects the government’s dedication to preserving Malaysia’s status as a peaceful and harmonious multi-religious nation.

"Malaysia Hindu Sangam fully supports such efforts and looks forward to continued collaboration to strengthen unity among the people,” said MHS.

Anwar said the Cabinet on Friday had decided that there is no need to create guidelines on Muslim participation in the festive celebrations of other religions.

Previously, it was reported that the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) had taken the initiative to develop these guidelines to encourage harmonious social and cultural interactions among the multi-religious society in the country, as well as to serve as a reference for Muslims attending the celebrations or ceremonies of other religions respectfully, adhering to proper etiquette and maintaining their Islamic faith. - Bernama
