Barisan loyal to component parties

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is a part of Barisan Nasional and it will remain that way, says coalition chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said Barisan would never be swayed by calls to remove any of its core component parties.

“MCA is one of the core component parties (of Barisan) alongside MIC and PBRS as well as other Friends of BN’s parties.

“We’re adamant and firm in making sure Barisan’s core component parties remain and will never be influenced by any calls to remove any of them,” he told reporters yesterday.

There had been a previous report about MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong indicating that certain “outsiders” have suggested that Umno expel MCA from Barisan.

However, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, downplayed the matter, saying there had never been any talk to do so.

“Those people who suggested (the removal of MCA) are just daydreamers,” he said.

On another matter, Bernama quoted Ahmad Zahid as saying in a Facebook post that Barisan would continue to move forward as a strong and relevant coalition that always prioritises the people and the nation.

He believes this can be achieved through unity and unwavering dedication to the coalition’s cause.

“For the past 25 months, Barisan has not only played a crucial role in the unity government but has also been the backbone of stability.

“However, past successes do not guarantee a bright future.

“The real challenge is how we continue moving forward, delivering benefits to the people in the months ahead,” he wrote.

In the same post, Ahmad Zahid also shared about his pre-council session with Barisan MPs, senators and assemblymen in conjunction with the opening of the Parliament term on Monday. He added that the session was aimed at strengthening unity and outlining Barisan’s direction during this parliamentary meeting.
