KUALA LUMPUR: An exceptional accounting student, who previously ranked second in the world for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Foundation in Accountancy (ACCA FIA) examination, was killed in a six-vehicle collision.
Aysar Zahran Saiful Alimin (pic), 20, died after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by an MPV that swerved into the opposite lane on Jalan Hulu Langat-Ampang at 4.45pm on Sunday.
The accident also involved three other motorcycles and a car, all of which were travelling from Hulu Langat to Ampang, said Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof.“He was pronounced dead at the scene while five others sustained injuries and were transported to Hospital Ampang.
“The drivers of both cars were unharmed,” he said in a statement, adding that the victims are aged between 17 and 38.
ACP Naazron said the driver of the MPV, a 27-year-old man, has been arrested.
Bernama reported that Aysar’s father, Saiful Alimin Mohd Mokhtar, 58, said his son had hoped to become an accountant at one of the world’s largest audit firms.
“I always encouraged him as it was a great career opportunity. I also have friends in the field and would tell him to look up to them,” said Saiful Alimin.
At the time of the accident, Aysar was returning to his college hostel in Gombak after practising archery and visiting his family in Hulu Langat.
Lecturer Gary Danny, 29, remembered Aysar as a dedicated student with big dreams.
“He spoke about working for a ‘Big Four’ audit firm to help his family. He wasn’t from a wealthy family and had a scholarship to continue his studies,” Danny said.
He recalled the moment he called Aysar to share the news of his exam results, adding: “We both screamed on the phone when I told him that he was second globally and first in Malaysia.”
