MELAKA: A former senior official with the Melaka Chief Minister's Department has been remanded until Saturday (Feb 8) on suspicion of being involved in corruption.
The remand order against the 42-year-old woman was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Feb 4) following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to sources, the suspect was remanded to help in the probe of a corruption case involving abuse of power and position during an event last year.
The alleged offence involved soliciting a RM5,000 contribution for a non-existent "annual family day" while the money was used for personal gain.
The unmarried woman is also suspected of using RM600 in festive contributions (duit Raya) meant for 30 personnel under her supervision for personal use.
She was arrested at 4.50pm on Monday (Feb 3) at the Melaka MACC office in Alai here to help with investigations under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
State MACC Director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest and remand order when contacted.
