Thunderstorm warning issued for Sarawak and Sabah


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are forecasted for parts of Sarawak and Sabah, extending to WP Labuan.

In Sarawak, the affected areas include Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu (Sebauh), Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan, and Marudi), and Limbang.

For Sabah, regions on alert are the Interior (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort), West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Ranau), Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan), and Kudat (Pitas).

The warning is valid until 7pm on Monday (Feb 3).

This alert is issued when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The warning is a short-term alert, effective for up to six hours from issuance.
