KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) is investigating complaints about poor facilities and services at an island resort.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew has ordered the probe following complaints posted on China's Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book, also known in English as Rednote) social networking and e-commerce platform.
"STB chief executive officer Jeffery Jimit has told me that the resort involved acknowledged the concerns raised by some tourists," she said in a statement on Monday (Feb 3).
“We take all feedback seriously and have taken swift action to address the matter.
"If (the claims are) proven true, appropriate action such as imposing a penalty should be taken accordingly.
“We cannot afford unpleasant tourist experiences that potentially tarnish the image of Sabah as an ideal travel destination," she said.
Liew added that the state government was committed to safeguarding Sabah’s reputation and maintaining the highest standard of service for every visitor.
“I understand the resort’s team is also looking into the issue and trying to contact the aggrieved guests to understand and address the situation," she said.
