KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall personnel will adopt a fast and efficient concept in implementing policies, programmes and services for the people while continuing to make it a sustainable and smart city.
Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said as the city celebrates its silver jubilee, there have been many improvements and developments brought about for Kota Kinabalu residents.
“Since Kota Kinabalu was named a city on Feb 2, 2000, we have seen changes in terms of beautification, infrastructure development, cleanliness and services,” he said during the city’s 25th anniversary celebrations here, Sunday (Feb 2).
“As we continue to bring betterment to the city and its folks, the expectations from people towards our services would also grow higher and become more demanding,” he said.
To meet these expectations and beyond, Sabin said City Hall personnel as well as himself as the mayor will adopt a quick and efficient concept in implementing all policies and programmes as well as their delivery system.
“We are committed to strengthening the sustainable city programme, see to the continuity and success of our green city initiative, environmental protection, development of green recreation space, and improvement to irrigation as well as public transport services,” he said.
City Hall will also focus on getting the smart city initiative going smoothly, working with agencies such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for better city management and services rendered to its customers, he said.
Other than that, Sabin said City Hall is continuing with its sea and river cleanup projects, landscaping, making use of digital transformation in its operations, empowering human resources and logistics as well as enforcing laws and regulations in the city.
Various environment-related efforts such as tree planting, no plastic bag campaigns, recycle programmes and others are also being carried out consistently, said the mayor.
For the purpose of cultural preservation and tourism development, City Hall holds various historical and cultural related events, hosts cultural festivals and promotes local products to domestic and international visitors to Kota Kinabalu, he said.
“All these are to boost the economy and strengthen Kota Kinabalu’s identity as a progressive, sustainable and attractive place to visit and live in,” said Sabin.
Earlier in the event, he thanked newly appointed Sabah governor Tun Musa Aman, and all invited guests for their support in making the silver jubilee celebration a success.
He also thanked stakeholders and the public for their support in helping the city hall implement its programmes and initiatives throughout the years.
