Flee before the fall: Maid drops into river while running away after only a week

KLUANG: After just a week on the job, a 47-year-old maid fell off a bridge while trying to escape her employers in Simpang Renggam.

The maid had changed her mind about her career choice and was crossing the bridge near a hotel around 6pm on Tuesday (Jan 28) when she slipped and fell five metres into the river below.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the victim hurt her leg and was taken to Hospital Kluang for treatment.

"Initial investigations revealed that the victim had decided to run away from her employer as she no longer wanted to work as a maid," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 30).

ACP Bahrin added that the victim had also confirmed that her employer had not harmed her and that she had only been working as a maid for a week.

"The victim also has a valid work permit and passport. Her agent has been notified, and there is no indication of any crime in this incident," he added.
