MPV driver killed in crash with bus in Kota Bharu


KOTA BHARU: A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driver died in an accident involving the vehicle and a bus at KM104 of the Kota Bharu-Gua Musang Road on Monday (Jan 27).

Sinar Harian reported that Kuala Krai OCPD Supt Mazlan Mamat said police received a call about the incident at about 1.45pm.

According to him, the accident is believed to have occurred when the MPV driven by a 56-year-old man lost control and entered the opposite lane, colliding with a bus.

"The man, a local, was said to have be heading from Sungai Sam heading towards Kuala Krai," he said on Monday (Jan 27).

He said that as a result of the collision, the MPV driver suffered serious injuries and was confirmed dead on the way to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital, Kuala Krai.

He added that the bus driver did not suffer any injuries and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are urging the public who have information about the incident to come forward to the Kuala Krai Traffic Police Station or contact the Investigating Officer, Insp Mohamad Amirul Izham Azian at 019-6380098.
