A tank used to store diesel brought in by various vehicles used suspects to obtain subsidised diesel.
KOTA KINABALU: Marine police busted a syndicate involved in illegally trading in subsidised diesel fuel at an illegal fuel "depot" on the mainland of the city here.
Marine Police Force Sabah Region Four, Asst Comm Nazri Ibrahim said they arrested 10 men and seized 93,100 litres of diesel in a raid at a premises in Jalan Kolombong, Lorong Terap 4, Inanam at about 3.40pm on Sunday (Jan 26).
He said they also seized several vehicles including a tanker with an estimated total value of the seizure amounting to about RM1.4mil.
ACP Nazri said that the raiding team caught the suspects red-handed transferring fuel from several vehicles to tanks at the illegal fuel depot.
"Our investigations found that the diesel was transferred from the vehicles to the storage tank and then put into a lorry tanker.
"We believe that the premises were being used as a storage place for subsidised diesel," he said on Tuesday (Jan 28).
He said that the suspects could not produce any valid permit or documents to fill and possess diesel from the Trade and Living Costs Ministry.
He said they arrested all the 10 men aged between 27 and 62 who were at the premises for further questioning.
ACP Nazri said police have handed over the suspects and seized goods to the ministry for further action under the Supply Control Act 1961.
He urged the public with information on such illegal activities to channel the information to the authorities.
