PETALING JAYA: Three men have been arrested so far in connection with selling drugs to Pinkfish concert-goers on New Year’s eve, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He said the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were detained around Selangor between Jan 8 and 21.

“One of the suspects was believed to have been at the concert while two others were not.

“Investigation showed some of the victims who survived bought ecstasy pills at the concert.

“There were also those who got the pills outside and took them before the concert began,” he said.

Comm Hussein also said placing Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) teams at concerts and limiting the number of concert attendees are among measures proposed for future concerts in Selangor.

This follows the death of four victims at the Pinkfish countdown concert on New Year’s eve.

He said the proposals are aimed at imposing stricter requirements for future concerts in the state.

“We will also be looking at the types of music played at concerts.

“We will meet with local governments to finalise the requirements for future concerts,” he told a press conference after launching the Selangor Ops Selamat campaign yesterday.

He said placing the NCID team at concerts is aimed at curbing drug abuse, including the sale of drugs at concerts.

“As for limiting the number of attendees for future concerts, it will depend on the venue or location,” he added.

It was reported that four locals died after attending the Pinkfish concert in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, on New Year’s eve, while three others survived.

They are believed to have taken ecstasy pills.

Comm Hussein had stated that the four, along with three others, fell unconscious after taking drugs at the concert.

One of the victims, who survived, has already been discharged from the hospital.

He revealed that investigations showed all seven youths had consumed ecstasy pills at the event.

Comm Hussein said some victims might have purchased the drug before attending the concert while others might have bought it at the concert venue.

Police are investigating if there were individuals selling drugs at the concert.

Comm Hussein said the concert organiser had failed to ensure the safety of concert-goers.

“We are also looking at whether the attendees at the Pinkfish concert were beyond the capacity.

“We discovered that 14,000 tickets were sold.

“With security and first aid teams at the scene, we believe more than 14,000 people were there that night,” he said.
