KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is urging for the planned gathering of 1,000 padi farmers in front of Perdana Putra on Monday (Jan 27) to be moved to another date.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said it is best the gathering is postponed as it overlaps with the official visit of Indonesian President Probowo Subianto.

"We are aware of the planned visit of the padi farmers to Putrajaya at 10am on Monday.

"However, its time and location overlaps with the Indonesian President's official visit," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 26).

The IGP said the police have made ample preparations in terms of security to ensure the Indonesian President's visit is free of security threats.

"We respect the paddy farmers' intention but we advise them to choose a different date and time to avoid any difficulties.

"We also want to avoid any negative perception towards the police if (rally) participants have to go through strict security procedures.

"Security for the Indonesian President's visit will be heightened as he is a distinguished guest of the country," he said.

Razarudin said the police are committed to facilitate the gathering of the padi farmers at a different date and time, in line with existing laws.

The security protocol imposed is in line with the duties of the police under Section 3(3) of the Police Act to preserve the law and public order, he said.
