Tragic road accident claims life of bride-to-be in Kota Tinggi


KOTA TINGGI: A bride-to-be died after the car she was in crashed into a truck while trying to overtake another vehicle here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the accident occurred at KM52 of Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing at around 4pm on Saturday (Jan 25).

“The 22-year-old woman, who was driving a hatchback car, tried to overtake a vehicle in front by entering the opposing lane but ended up colliding with an oncoming truck.

“The woman’s 14-year-old brother was also in the car as they were on their way from Kota Masai in Johor Baru to Tanah Merah, Kelantan, where she was due to get married soon,” he said in a statement.

He said the woman suffered from severe injuries due to the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her brother and the 40-year-old truck driver were also injured and sent to Hospital Kota Tinggi for medical treatment,” he said, adding that the woman’s body was also sent there for post-mortem.

Supt Yusof said the case was classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He reminded road users to obey traffic rules and regulations to ensure their and the safety of others.
