Teacher punches kid: Education Ministry to cooperate fully with police probe, says Fadhlina

KOTA KINABALU: The Education Ministry will leave it to police to investigate a case where a 12-year-old student was allegedly beaten up by a teacher at a Perak school on Dec 10, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said that the ministry would cooperate with police as the student's parents have lodged a police report.

"We should leave the investigation entirely to the police because the parents have lodged a report," she told reporters after the state education leadership assembly at the SM Kian Kok here Saturday (Jan 25).

She reminded the teachers to fully cooperate with the police investigations.

She said the ministry would provide counselling to the child and his family.

The case was highlighted by the parents on Friday (Jan 24) who said that their son had suffered a "cochlear concussion" after he was slapped and punched by a teacher.

The couple, both 39 years old, called on the authorities to take action against the teacher responsible for causing the injuries to their son who had to undergo specialist treatment.

On Thursday (Jan 23), Kerian OCPD Supt Juna Yusoff said the case had been classified under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and that the investigation paper had been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
