Bangladeshi nationals arrested at KLIA for impersonating fisheries academy trainees

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Bangladeshi nationals posing as Malaysian Fisheries Academy trainees were arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Friday (Jan 24).

KLIA Immigration Department director Ibrahim Mohd Yusof said the 12 men were previously seen wearing uniforms, reported Sinar Harian.

"Initial investigations found that all the individuals involved claimed they came to this country as trainees at the Malaysian Fisheries Academy.

"They presented an invitation letter from the academy with an address in Kuching, Sarawak," he said.

He said that the 12 men behaved in a suspicious manner, causing concern.

"They were all referred to the Immigration Operations Office for further review.

"The inspection found that the contents of the letter presented by the group were not legitimate.

"The KLIA immigration team has detained and immediately issued Not-To-Land (NTL) notices to all the Bangladeshi nationals involved," he said.

He said action was taken under Section 28(3)(b) of the Immigration Act for submitting documents suspected to be falsified.

"We (the KLIA Immigration team) will continue to monitor to ensure that all individuals entering the country comply with the requirements and standards outlined," he said.
