Bangladeshi man detained for assaulting wife with mop handle and hair dryer

AMPANG: A 42-year-old Bangladeshi man has been detained for allegedly beating his Indonesian wife with a mop handle and a hair dryer.

The incident took place at their home in Taman Dagang.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the incident occurred because the man suspected his 46-year-old wife of having an affair.

"The suspect accused the victim of having an affair shortly after she came home from work at about 8pm on Jan 20."

"He was suspicious as the victim's male friend had met her while she was at work," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 23).

The suspect allegedly beat the left side of the victim's body using a mop handle and a hair dryer, he said.

"We detained the suspect, who was working in the construction sector, at about 5pm on Jan 21. The suspect tested negative for drugs," he added.

ACP Mohd Azam said the investigation paper has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

"The DPP has instructed for the suspect to be charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon," he said.
