Young couple held over infant’s death

PORT DICKSON: A young couple is being investigated for murder after police found the remains of a newborn baby with injuries believed to have been caused by a knife in a house here.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Maslan Udin said police received a report from the district hospital at around 11.15am on Tuesday that an 18-year-old girl had sought post-natal treatment but could not produce her baby when asked.

“Police launched a probe and we found the remains of a baby girl stuffed in a bag in the room of a house here. The victim also had injuries to the chest, believed caused by a sharp object.”

Supt Maslan said police detained the mother and her 21-year-old boyfriend in follow-up operations.

The boyfriend is unemployed while the mother works part-time at a fast food outlet here.

“Police also seized a knife believed to have been used in the crime. A preliminary probe revealed that the suspects committed the crime as they didn’t want their families to know that the girl had given birth.”
