Klang factory fire kills one worker, injures two others


KLANG: A factory fire in the Sungai Puloh industrial area here killed one worker and injured two others on Tuesday (Jan 21).

The North Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said that preliminary investigations, based on the factory manager's statement, revealed that six individuals were inside the premises when the fire occurred.

He said that early investigations indicated the incident was caused by an LPG gas cylinder stored within the factory compound.

"Checks revealed that three out of the six workers involved were unharmed, while three others sustained injuries and were taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, and Shah Alam Hospital.

"One of the injured victims was pronounced dead at approximately 6:32 pm on Tuesday at HTAR, Klang, due to second and third-degree burns," he said in a statement on Wednesday as reported by Sinar Harian.

He added that the losses resulting from the incident are estimated to be around RM5mil.

"The incident also caused damage to the factory structure and nearby factories.

"Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Forensic Unit of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department," he said.

Earlier, the media reported that a factory in the Sungai Puloh industrial area caught fire on Tuesday.

The incident caused damage to the factory and neighbouring facilities.
