Seven foreigners injured in Klang gas storage factory fire


KLANG: Seven foreigners were caught in a fire at a gas storage factory located at Taman Aman Perdana in the early hours of Tuesday (Jan 21).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar stated that the department received a distress call at 12.55am.

He reported that 80% of the factory was gutted by fire, which also spread to a neighbouring premises used for heavy machinery storage.

The heavy machinery warehouse also suffered 80% fire damage, while a copper processing factory behind the gas storage outlet was 20% burnt, Ahmad Mukhlis added.

"Out of the seven victims, three suffered serious burn injuries, and four managed to save themselves," said Ahmad Mukhlis, adding that the fire was successfully doused at 2am.

Forty-three firefighters were involved in the operations.

Ironically, hours before the incident, an explosion had rocked a chemical factory at the Sungai Kapar Indah industrial area.

There were no casualties in this incident.
