IPOH: The malfunctioning QR codes on Ipoh's Heritage Trail markers are set to be fixed by mid-year, says Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
“We will first review the system, as it was set up under an old contract. The system is being revamped and we aim to launch a new version this year.
"Hopefully, it will be ready by mid-year since next year is Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he said in a press conference on Monday (Jan 20).
He added that the updated system will highlight local attractions, historical sites, and include significant improvements.
It was previously reported tourists has expressed disappointment with the QR codes, which reportedly redirected to unrelated sources instead of providing accurate information about the Heritage Trail and its historical landmarks.
Non-functioning QR codes have been identified at Ipoh Padang, Mercantile and Chartered Bank buildings.
Earlier, Datuk Rumaizi presented a special Ipoh City Council (MBI) Prihatin contribution to 17 MBI staff to ease the burden of the recipients while also brightening up this year's Chinese New Year 2025 Celebrations.
The event was also witnessed by Councilor Wong Kar Keat, MBI secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak, city secretary, senior director and head of the MBI department.
