KANGAR: A baby girl has been found abandoned in front of a house in Jalan Kampung Rama, Kuala Sanglang, Simpang Empat.
She had been wrapped in two towels placed in a plastic bag lined with a piece of pelikat cloth, said Kangar district police chief Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop.
The police were informed of the discovery at 8.35am through a phone call from a man who claimed the baby was in front of his house.
“The baby is healthy and has been sent for treatment and will be handed over to the Health Ministry for further action. No arrests have been made so far,” he said in a statement yesterday.
ACP Yusharifuddin said the police are investigating the case under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposure and abandonment of a child, Bernama reported.
In Alor Setar, the Kota Setar district Social Welfare Department is looking for the biological mother or relatives of a one-year-old boy, Muhammad Iqbal Rayyan Abdullah.
In a statement, the department said the child was handed over to the department’s Kota Setar office by a temporary guardian on April 28 last year.
“The biological mother, identified as Mahiran Abdul Latiff, left the child with a man believed to be her boyfriend before disappearing. Efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful to date.
“On May 9, the Alor Setar Court for Children issued a Temporary Custody Order under Subsection 19(2) of the Child Act 2001, placing the child under the care of Taman Sinar Harapan in Jitra,” the department said.
It said that finding the biological mother or relatives is crucial to ensure the child receives the best possible care and placement.
“Anyone with information on the mother or relatives is urged to contact the Kota Setar Social Welfare Department protector at 04-720 2370,” it said.
