JOHOR BARU: Close to RM6mil has been allocated by the state government to carry out various initiatives for the Chinese community under Johor Budget 2025.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi read out details of the allocation from a text prepared in Mandarin.
“A total of RM1mil has been allocated for 200 students from Southern University College, RM1.5mil was allocated for 3,000 students from 10 Chinese secondary schools, and RM500,000 for non-Muslim houses of worship.
“We are also allocating RM50,000 to 10 Chinese secondary schools, RM1mil for 200 Chinese non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and RM1mil for the Sultanah Fatimah Foundation,” he said during the special Chinese New Year dinner on Friday (Jan 17) night.
Onn Hafiz added that RM175,000 has also been allocated to help 550 Chinese university students, and RM250,000 will be allocated to the Johor Ancient Temple and five clan associations in Johor Baru.
The Mentri Besar also announced good news for the Foon Yew High School Seri Alam campus, which was the venue of the special Chinese New Year dinner.
“Finally, tax property exemption for the Foon Yew High School Seri Alam branch. This is to be settled within three months,” he said in Mandarin, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
Among those present at the event here include Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, Johor investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han, and Sultanah Fatimah Foundation chairman Mejar Cina Datuk David Wong Khong Soon.
