Cops recapture escaped detainee after three days on the run

TANGKAK: Police have successfully recaptured a 38-year-old detainee who escaped custody on Jan 15.

Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the drug suspect was arrested on Saturday (Jan 18) at 10.50am at a house in the Kluang district, following a tip-off from the public.

“The Tangkak police, with assistance from the Kluang police, have managed to arrest the suspect.

“An inspection at the scene verified the identity of the individual as the detainee who had fled police custody two days earlier,” he said in a statement here Saturday (Jan 18).

Supt Roslan added that further investigations led to the discovery and seizure of a blue motorcycle.

“The motorcycle had been reported stolen, based on Tangkak RPT 305/25, under Section 379A of the Penal Code, and was suspected to have been used by the detainee to facilitate his escape,” he said.

He also shared that, following the arrest, police also detained two other individuals, aged 40 and 50 years old, suspected of abetting and harbouring the escaped detainee.

“All three suspects were taken to the Tangkak district police headquarters for further investigation under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code for escaping from lawful custody.

“We also would like to extend our gratitude to members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the apprehension of the wanted suspect,” he added.
