76 foreigners nabbed during raids in Shah Alam, Kajang

KUALA LUMPUR: Seventy-six illegal immigrants were detained following several raids at foreign worker settlements in Shah Alam and Kajang.

The raids, involving 113 officers, were conducted at about 12.05am on Friday (Jan 17).

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said 374 foreigners were inspected.

"We detained 76 illegal immigrants, aged between 20 and 55, for various offences.

"Those detained were from Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan and India," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 18).

The raids were conducted following complaints from the public on undocumented foreigners staying at the raided locations, he said.

"Among the offences detected were no personal identification documents and overstaying.

"Those detained are being held at the immigration depot in Pekan Nenas, Johor.

"We will continue to take stern action against any party who have committed immigration offences," he said.
