Year Six pupil finishes as runner-up in Asian Olympiad

A YEAR 6 pupil from SJK (T) Ampang, Mohamed Rohail Hanif, finished second at the Asian Science & Maths Olympiad (ASMO) 2024.

Malaysia Nanban reported that Mohamed Rohail won the state and national level competitions to qualify for the international leg in Bangkok, Thailand.

The event, which was held on Jan 10-13, saw winners from the national-level competitions from all over Asia competing in Science, Maths and English.

Mohamed Rohail finished second in the English category.

His father, Mohamed Raisul Islam, said the win has made the Ampang Tamil school and the teachers proud. He has no doubts that Tamil-school educated pupils can be successful anywhere and his son’s achievement is a testament to that, he said.

> The daily also reported that a young man in India has won a car after taming 19 bulls in the famed Avaniyapuram Jallikattu event.

The annual affair in Tamil Nadu, India, is held during the Ponggal festival, and a total of 825 bulls and 500 tamers competed in the event in Avaniyapuram, Madurai.

The man, only known as Karthik, tamed 19 bulls to win a Nissan car, a cow and a calf.
