IPOH: Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) and medical director of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital, effective Jan 16, 2025.

In a statement on Friday (Jan 17), UTAR Hospital announced that with over 30 years of experience in healthcare management and public health leadership, Dr Ding will spearhead the hospital's mission to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.

The statement highlighted that Dr. Ding brings a wealth of expertise and an impressive track record, including her distinguished tenure as Perak health director, where she led the state’s coordinated response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Previously, she served as the director of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang where she implemented quality improvements and operational strategies that elevated patient care standards.

"As the Kuala Lumpur Hospital deputy director, she played a pivotal role in the commissioning of the Specialist Clinic Ambulatory Care Centre," the statement read.

UTAR Hospital noted that Dr. Ding's career also encompasses leadership at the Health Ministry's Clinical Research Centre, where she advanced healthcare research and quality assurance initiatives.

Currently, she contributes to healthcare quality and mental health advocacy through voluntary roles, including serving as the secretary-general of the Malaysian Mental Health Association.

In the same statement, Dr Ding said it is an honour to join UTAR Hospital, highlighting its unique position in integrating medical services, education, and research to serve the community.

"I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated team to achieve excellence in healthcare delivery and innovation," she said.

Meanwhile, UTAR Hospital board chairman Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Chuah Hean Teik said UTAR Hospital is a hospital built "by the people, for the people”.

"UTAR Hospital remains committed to enhancing healthcare for our community and contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge and practices through continuous learning, training, and community engagement.

"With the appointment of Dr Ding, I am sure the hospital will continue to improve and move towards our vision and mission," he said, adding that UTAR Hospital extends its deepest gratitude for the service and leadership of outgoing CEO and medical director Prof Dr Lau Hui Ping, who retired at the end of December 2024.

UTAR Hospital is a non-profit, integrated healthcare facility offering quality and affordable medical services in both Western medicine and Traditional and Complementary Medicine, including Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Traditional Malay practices. - Bernama
