Police seek witnesses to fatal hit-and-run in Putatan


KOTA KINABALU: Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a Chinese national in Putatan on Wednesday (Jan 15).

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said the 50-year-old victim was crossing the road alone from a hotel towards the Servay Supermarket area when he was struck by a motorcycle at around 1.30am.

"A team rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the public, only to find that the victim had already been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by paramedics.

"The motorcyclist was nowhere to be found," he said here on Friday (Jan 17).

Supt Sammy said the victim later succumbed to severe head injuries.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident or with information that may help identify the motorcyclist to contact investigating officer Insp Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133.
