KUALA LUMPUR: The disbursement of funds under the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional) to empower Indian entrepreneurs will be monitored to ensure effective implementation and delivery.

Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan (pic) said the government remains committed to enhancing the economic empowerment agenda for the Indian community, including the largest-ever RM100mil allocation through the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (Spumi) under Tekun Nasional since 2007.

"In Budget 2025, the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) allocated RM30mil through Tekun Nasional to empower Indian entrepreneurs, complemented by an additional RM70mil from Tekun Nasional’s internal funds, which will benefit over 5,000 Indian entrepreneurs nationwide.

"My team at the ministry would work closely with Tekun Nasional’s leadership to ensure the smooth implementation of the initiative,” he said in a Facebook post Friday (Jan 17).

He added that the allocation represents a strategic effort by the government to support Indian entrepreneurs in advancing their businesses.

On Spumi's achievements, Ramanan said the scheme has assisted 26,804 Indian entrepreneurs with RM500mil in funding since its launch in 2007.

Last year alone, RM58.9mil was disbursed to 2,408 Indian entrepreneurs through Spumi, while RM12.6mil was allocated to 287 entrepreneurs under Spumi Goes Big, launched in April.

He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to introducing new initiatives to benefit the Indian community, with strong support from the Prime Minister and Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick. – Bernama
