Man jailed five years for sexual assault of 11-year-old stepsister

SEREMBAN: A 24-year-old man was sentenced to five years in jail and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to three counts of committing physical sexual assault against his 11-year-old stepsister.

The unemployed man did not contest the charges after they were read to him before Judge Surita Budin.

He was charged with committing the offences between Aug 2023 and July 2024 at a house in Felda Palong 4 and another dwelling at Felda Palong 5.

The charges were under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni urged the court to impose a sentence commensurate with the crime, noting the seriousness of the offence.

"The accused has committed a serious sexual crime against the victim, who is his stepsister.

"The court should also take into account that the accused is currently serving another sentence for committing a similar crime against the victim's six-year-old sister," she said.

The accused, who was unrepresented, requested the court to backdate his prison sentence to the day of his arrest on Nov 14 last year.

The court allowed his request.
