Flood situation improves in Johor, number of evacuees drops to 1,118

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped significantly from 2,625 people at noon to 1,118 at 5pm on Tuesday.

Johor Disaster Management Committee said that there are now 336 families being placed at 12 temporary relief centres in four flood-affected districts.

“As of 5pm, the highest number of victims is at Kluang with 410 people, followed by Pontian with 381, Kota Tinggi with 274 and Johor Baru, 53.

“The drop comes after the decision to allow evacuees from five relief centres in Kota Tinggi to return to their home as the situation improves,” it said in a statement.

The closed relief centres are SJKC New Kota, Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu Kota Tinggi, SK Laksamana, SK Dato’s Usman Awang and SK Tun Dr Syed Nasir.
