TUMPAT: The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, under the leadership of Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing aid to those affected by the recent floods in Kelantan and Terengganu.

"During this visit to Kelantan, we specifically entrusted the Mohd Chan Welfare Organisation (PKMC) to procure essential items for families impacted by the floods. This initiative aims to convey the warmth and friendship of the Chinese government.

"The floods, which have affected Kelantan, Terengganu, and several other areas since the end of last year, have disrupted the lives of tens of thousands of residents," he told reporters after the donation ceremony for flood-affected families at Surau Biru, Kampung Pulau Gorek, here on Tuesday (Jan 14).

Ouyang shared that 300 flood-affected families in Kelantan received donations totalling approximately RM50,000.

"The contributions, provided by the embassy in collaboration with PKMC and the Kelantan Civil Defence Force, included essential items such as rice, mineral water, cooking oil, flour, and other necessities," he added.

Ouyang also spoke about the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

"This ECRL project, led by a major Chinese company, is a significant infrastructure undertaking and is now 76% complete," he said, adding that the ECRL project in Terengganu and Kelantan is expected to be completed by the end of this year, a year ahead of its original timeline of 2026-2027. – Bernama
