SPM candidates in Sarawak transported by Civil Defence Force due to flood

SIBU: The Civil Defence Force (APAM) transported seven SMK Kwong Hua SPM candidates to school due to flooding on Monday (Jan 13).

APAM Sibu chief Major (PA) Wan Mohd Jabir said that accompanying the students in their three-tonne lorry were three SPM invigilators and two teachers.

The road to the school has been accessible only by heavy vehicles since Sunday (Jan 12) due to flooding caused by the swelling of the Rajang River after two days of heavy rain.

"Our men picked them up from their respective locations at 7am and reached the school half an hour later," he added.

Separately, the State Fire and Rescue Department reported that its Kanowit station rescued a family whose car was stranded in the flood on Jalan Lukut-Penyulau, Kanowit.

The victims have been identified as Mohd Syaiful Ibrahim, 41, his wife Surua Rosli, 29, and their four-month-old daughter Aliana Afisya.

"They were on their way from Sibu to Kanowit to deliver vegetables to their shop in Kanowit before the incident occurred," the department said.

The water level at the scene was four feet high at 6.30am on Monday (January 13).
