E-hailing driver claims trial to sexually assaulting teen stepdaughter

SEREMBAN: A 36-year-old e-hailing driver pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to a charge of sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

The accused claimed trial after the charge was read to him before judge Surita Budin on Friday (Jan 10).

He was charged with committing the offence at around noon on Monday (Jan 6) at a house in Tampin.

The man, who has two children of his own, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides a jail term not exceeding 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then told the court that her team was not offering the accused any bail.

When Surita asked the whereabouts of the victim, the court was told that she was now under the care of the Social Welfare Department.

Surita then set bail at RM12,000 with one surety and fixed Feb 17 for next mention.
