JOHOR BARU: Johor leaders, led by state Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, met with the Qatar Prime Minister to discuss possible collaborations to improve economic and social developments in Johor.

The meeting with Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Thani on Thursday (Jan 9) was shared in a post on Tunku Ismail’s Facebook page.

“Tunku Ismail was invited for a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, who is also Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Minister.

“Topics discussed during the meeting included collaborations to improve economic and social developments in Johor,” the post read.

Also present were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Economic, Tourism and Cultural Office Singapore chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

Onn Hafiz said he hoped the meeting would be a starting point for future collaborations and closer ties that would also benefit Johor.

“The meeting was part of Tunku Ismail’s proactive effort to create economic waves and opportunities for Johor at a global level.

“We thank the Regent for his extraordinary commitment to link Johor to the world.

Such bilateral ties are important to open new opportunities for more rapid economic growth and create job opportunities for the people of Johor,” said Onn Hafiz.

With continued support and cooperation, the Johor government was confident that the state would continue to be competitive and influential on the international level, he added.
