It has garnered more than 100 comments so far, with many users expressing concern that poor vehicle maintenance increases the risk of accidents.

User scuba@azlan said the driver should have checked the vehicle thoroughly, while Khaikoyak suggested the authorities should also check heavy vehicle chassis, axles and other components regularly to ensure roadworthiness.

Other commenters noted that mishaps involving lorry tyres seemed to be common of late.

It was reported that a trailer lorry tyre became dislodged and caused a fatal pile-up at KM204 of the NSE in Melaka on Monday (Dec 23).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said in a statement the following day that a tour bus with 27 passengers tried to avoid the tyre but went out of control, skidding into oncoming traffic and colliding with three other vehicles.

Seven people died while 33 others were injured.
